Reports of Crime up - Police Stretched

Police stretched

The rise in crime is accelerating, with the latest figures showing a 13% increase in all police-recorded offences across England and Wales.

Only 1 in 10 crimes are successfully prosecuted in this area and neighbourhood police teams are stretched.

Solihull's Terrible Robbery Record

The latest Local Government Association analysis shows that Solihull is the 5th worst Metropolitan Borough in England for the number of robberies per thousand residents. (When we printed our Focus newsletter about this we were 6th - it's getting worse).

Police having to do more with less

West Midlands Chief Constable , Dave Thompson, said late last year that his resources are stretched by the need to fight terrorism and cyber-crime, with less devoted to 'acquisitive crime' now.

"Our ability to be preventative has been curtailed this year", he said, explaining that neighbourhood teams are spending more time on 'reactive work'.

The Tory government is expecting the Police to do more, for less. Residents tell us it feels that the level of protection from crime is shrinking.

We say the rising Police workload demands increased resources to keep us all safe.  A Lib Dem Councillor for Blythe would make your voice heard.
