Parking Restrictions near Olton Station Proposed

Solihull Council have advertised proposals for parking restrictions near Olton station, following a campaign by the local Lib Dem team to combat unsociable parking on residential roads. The deadline for objections is the 18th of November.

Parking Problems at Olton Station - Solihull Lib Dems

About a year ago, your Lib Dem team raised concerns about the parking problems on the roads near the station, and campaigned to add more parking for rail commuters.Earlier Focus Story

The Council subsequently proposed new parking restrictions, and while new yellow lines may help, we don't believeit's a long-term solution.

Our aim is to increase the amount of parking provided at the station, and work with the new West Midlands Combined Authority to sort out the inconsistent parking arrangements at stations along the line.

The introduction of parking charges at Solihull station encouraged rail-users to drive to Olton and park for free. Even without that push-factor, Olton station would attract a large number of commuters travelling to Birmingham, Solihull and London.

People are now parking all day on surrounding residential roads, blighting the lives of residents. Some of them told us that sometimes they've been blocked in on their own drives!

The Council told us in the Spring that they would introduce parking restrictions, to build on the existing yellow lines. We know that these won't be popular with everyone and we don't think it's the ideal solution, potentially pushing commuters to park even further afield.

Objections and comments can be made to the Council until the 18th of November.

Below is the Council's detailed description of exactly where the restrictions will be placed. A map showing the locations can be viewed here.
