The Fairfield Care Home located at 27 Old Warwick Road, Olton ceased to be a care home in March 2020. A planning application was submitted in June to adapt the existing building into a "Hostel" allowing anyone to live there temporarily or more permanently.
We are calling for the council to scrap this application due to many local resident's concerns that the room arrangements and security will not be safe for its proposed guests or residents. The owners also seem to have already started conversion work despite the application not being accepted and advertising the property on their website and this is completely unacceptable.
As someone who works in a care home, neglect of residents is something I find abhorrent and its personal to me that we stop this application.
We must follow due process to make sure that the owners would be responsible for their guests and make sure they would all be safe and secure.
We are very concerned for the safety of such a mixture of residents who would be living in the hostel. These could be temporary or more permanent residents without 24 hour security and reception. We're also very concerned for the safety of people in the local community.
We are also concerned about the fact that there are only 8 car parking spaces and with 21 proposed rooms, more guests will park on Bickenhill Park Road, Marsden Close, Warwick Grove, Brookvale Road and Old Warwick Road in order to stay. These roads already suffer from too many parked cars.
