7 Months of Traveller Discontent

Traveller CaravanBlythe’s 7 months of Traveller Discontent began in March when the travellers first took up residence in Blythe Valley Park.

What followed was a spring and summer of chasing various groups of travellers from illegal encampment to illegal encampment with Hillfield Park, the Village, Tesco, Monkspath Hall Road Car Park, Light Hall School and Farmfoods all being targeted.

For months, local Tories were content for the council to deal with the situation.

Solihull MP Julian Knight started a petition calling on the council to address the issue! But the Council had been doing all it could, along with the Police, working as fast as the law allowed. Law, decided in Westminster, of course!

The traveller population has grown 37% since 2007, increasing the demand for spaces, meaning this problem isn’t going away any time soon.

A Lib Dem Councillor would not take seven months to react to the problem and ensure the recommendations agreed with West Midlands Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner were fully implemented.

Vote Charles Robinson, Liberal Democrat
