Campden Green Quad Bikes and 4x4s

Following two recent incidents involving quad bikes and 4x4s using Campden Green as an off-road driving ground, with no regard for it being a resident area or for the safety of other areas, Lyndon Liberal Democrats are pushing the council for action to tackle this problem.

Following two recent incidents involving quad bikes and 4x4s using Campden Green as an off-road driving ground, with no regard for it being a resident area or for the safety of other areas, we intend to push the council for action to tackle this problem.

We have listed some potential options below, but there are pros and cons to all of them. Therefore, we are seeking the opinions of Campden Green residents on a preferred solution.

If you are a Campden Green resident then you can complete our online questionnaire by clicking here

The options are:

  1. Earth Mound around edge of Green – Cheap to implement, would prevent parking on the edges of the Green, may not stop quad bikes.

  2. Earth Mound inset approximately 5m from around the edge of the Green – Cheap to implement, would allow parking on the perimeter of the Green (but would negatively impact the appearance of the Green), may not stop quad bikes.

  3. Earth Mound around the edge of the Green, inset 5m in locations, where lack of parking is a particular issue only – Compromise between Options 1 and 2.*

  4. Wooden Barrier around edge of Green – More costly to implement, would prevent parking on the edges of the Green, would stop vehicles and quad bikes. Would require maintenance/replacement in the mid to long term.

  5. Wooden Barrier inset approximately 5m from around the edge of the Green – More costly to implement, would allow parking on the perimeter of the Green (but would negatively impact the appearance of the Green), would stop vehicles and quad bikes. Would require maintenance/replacement in the mid to long term.

  6. Wooden Barrier around the edge of the Green, inset 5m in locations, where lack of parking is a particular issue only – Compromise between Options 4 And 5.*

  7. Metal Barrier around edge of Green – Most costly to implement. Would prevent parking on the edges of the Green, would stop vehicles and quad bikes. Lower maintenance requirement.

  8. Metal Barrier inset approximately 5m from around the edge of the Green – Most costly to implement, would allow parking on the perimeter of the Green (but would negatively impact the appearance of the Green), would stop vehicles and quad bikes. Lower maintenance requirement.

  9. Metal Barrier around the edge of the Green, inset 5m in locations, where lack of parking is a particular issue only – Compromise between Options 7 And 8.*

  10. Do Nothing – I’m happy with the current situation.

  11. Something Else – Please make your own suggestions.

Any solution implemented will need to take account of the location of underground services, so may need to be tailored accordingly.

In addition to the above, Ade has tabled a question for Full Council on Tuesday (2nd Feb) – asking the Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities what more can be done to prevent such incidents from happening again.

*Please note the council rejected our recent Campden Green Parking Petition (which would have addressed this issue), because of lack of funds and not wanting to set a precedent for other areas with similar parking issues.

We look forward to hearing your opinion on this matter.

If there is anything else we can support you with, please do get in touch.
