Scrap the Tory Charity Tax

Liberal Democrats in Solihull and Meriden are campaigning to scrap the Tory tax on Solihull Charities.

The Conservative administration recently voted through in its budget, a proposal to charge local charities and community groups for any events on council land which charge admission or require registration. Currently, there is no charge for charitable events.

Over the last two years local charities and community groups have seen their fundraising efforts hit hard due to the pandemic and inability to hold events. This is the time when they most need help - not further pressures. We believe that this tax on charity is wrong and will lead to a reduced number of events for the community.

This proposal will go before the Cabinet Member later this year for a formal decision, and we are urging Solihull residents to make their feelings known.

Please sign below if you believe that all charity events held in Solihull should remain free.

We, the undersigned, strongly urge Solihull Council to keep the current events policy that all charitable events held on council land are free of charge to the organisers.
