Solihull Stuck with Lame Duck MP

Every Conservative MP in Solihull has been a disappointment, says Cllr Adeyemo

Councillor Ade Adeyemo

Liberal Democrat Spokesperson, Ade Adeyemo, says Solihull residents deserve better and they should ditch ‘failing’ Conservative MPs and vote for a fresh start.

Solihull MP Julian Knight has announced that he will not be seeking re-election in 2024.  Responding to the news, Councillor Adeyemo said:

“This is clearly a disaster for Julian Knight and the Conservatives in Solihull.

“However, the greater disaster has been for the people of Solihull who have been taken for granted and ignored for the last eight years.  We are now facing the prospect of a lame duck MP for another year.

“The people of Solihull face a clear choice – yet another Tory who will take them for granted and ignore their wishes or a Lib Dem MP who will work hard on their behalf and put our town back on the map.

"Every Conservative MP in Solihull has been a disappointment.  We must demand better.

“The time has come to make a change.  The time has come for people to be brave.  The time has come to elect an MP who will deliver for Solihull – a Liberal Democrat MP.

“I am continually reminded by residents when I knock on their doors how brilliant Lorely Burt was as the MP for Solihull.  She was always available and there to help, unlike the incumbent who has been dubbed ‘Silent Knight’ due to his lack of presence in the constituency.

“Lorely Burt was a wonderful Lib Dem MP and I want to build on the good work she did for the people of Solihull.  Lib Dems have a proud record of delivery here and I want to continue that good work that local people so deserve.

“Conservatives MPs have failed Solihull time and time again – crashing the economy, describing the campaign for fairer funding for local schools as ‘tosh’ and allowing raw sewage to be discharged into our local rivers and watercourses.

“It’s time for change.  The time has come for Solihull to move on and elect a forward-thinking MP who will be their voice in parliament and their champion in Solihull.

“The time has come for Solihull to demand better.  The time has come for Solihull to do the right thing and elect an MP who has their best interests at heart.  A Lib Dem MP”.
