Petition Against Residential Airport Parking
Airport parking in residential areas has been an issue raised with us for many years, but recently the problem seems to have worsened.
At the moment, due to road tax rules, cars can park anywhere as long as they do so safely. In Elmdon this has led to holiday makers abandoning their cars for often weeks at a time on residential roads to avoid airport parking charges. However, increasingly these cars are parking across drives, blocking pavements, or on junctions. Police action is not discouraging the problem due to the nature of the culprits.
We are aware of the issues this is causing so many households in Elmdon and are working with the Council Highways team and speaking to other Councillors across the country with airports in their ward to find a solution.
We have created a petition asking Birmingham Airport to review airport parking in residential areas and take action to tackle it. This will also be shared with the Solihull Council and the Council's representatives on the Airport Consultative Committee to ensure joined up working and to share strength of feeling locally. Please sign our petition below.
