Re-open the Beechnut Lane Crossing!
Solihull Council has removed the pedestrian crossing at Beechnut Lane, despite 81% of responses to the consultation being against the closure.
The crossing is a vital part of our community infrastructure - enabling easier access to shops and the Yew Tree GP surgery. Removing it forces a significant de-tour for pedestrians, especially as the Hampton Lane junction has a poor safety record and residents tell us they feel uncomfortable using the subway between Elms Close and Shustoke Road.
Safety concerns used to justify the closure could be addressed by vegetation cut back, however this has been ruled this out due to the initial and ongoing maintenance costs and the dire financial position the Conservative-run Council is currently in.
Silhill Liberal Democrats believe that this crossing is essential for the local community and are campaigning for the Conservative Cabinet Member to re-open it.

Re-open the Beechnut Lane crossing!
We, the undersigned, call on Solihull Council to re-open this crossing.
