Choosing Light and Hope over Division and Hate

It is only through hope, peace and togetherness with our neighbours that we will foster long-lasting peace in our communities.

Cllr Adeyemo and Rabbi Pink

I had the pleasure of joining Solihull's Jewish community in Solihull Town Centre for the lighting of the menorah, commemorating the start of Chanukah (Hanukkah).  Also in attendance were Councillor Annette Mackenzie, Mayor of Solihull and Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Despite our sadness at more dreadful news about anti-semitic hatred and violence, we want to make it known that we stand with Solihull's Jewish community on a day when we should be lighting candles to celebrate peace and togetherness.

This was an opportunity to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in togetherness with Solihull's Jewish community.  We must celebrate difference in our inclusive society and we must take a stand against those who wish to spread hate, fear and division amongst us.

Here in Solihull, our local communities have always lived side-by side in peace and tolerance. It is only through hope, peace and togetherness with our neighbours that we will foster long-lasting peace in our communities.
